New Finishes- Two New Quilts!

This is my Sea Swept quilt. The pattern came from Better Homes & Gardens American Patchwork and Quilting. It is entirely foundation paper-pieced. I love it! I quilted it with a cotton/poly batting and Aurifil monofilament thread.

It's definitely better for summer but I love cuddling under it now.

This is another version of the charm-pack-quilt I've made a few times. This fabric features unicorns and rainbows. I love it but I'm giving it away for charity at my next guild meeting.

I never really finished the Declutter Challenge; I watched Karen Brown's videos and realized that I did not have anything close to enough stuff to really declutter. I just need to clean up and organize a little better, so I've been working on that. I do find things to give away from time to time but not much honestly. My room is looking a lot better though!

Another Layer Cake Link Quilt

I made this quilt for a friend on Nantucket and gave it to her and her husband this past week.

The pattern is the Layer Cake Links and it's a free downloand from Fat Quarter Shop.

I did wavy walking foot quilting across the surface.

The backing consisted of a mermaid panel I got at a guild meeting from the giveaway table, and most of three additional yards of sea-themed fabric I had in my stash. I'm really happy with how it turned out, and my friends love it too!

Monday Making!

This week has been pretty productive.

I got all my gift blocks done on my newest Christmas scrap quilt (no name for it yet) and started on the nine patches that make up the Irish chain variation that will make up the rest of the blocks.

Irish Chain variation
The basis for the colors was a collection of leftovers from a kit I completed several years ago. The quilt that came from that kit wound up being a gift but since then I've made two projects with the leftovers- my tree skirt and a version of the tree wallhanging I've now made twice.

I pulled from my Christmas scrap bag for the rest of the fabrics to coordinate.

I've now made a pretty sizeable dent in the scrap bag and used up most of the scraps from the kit. This will be a quilt that I will keep since it coordinates with other Christmas decorations.

The pattern comes from Cluck Cluck Sew. They have several versions of what is essentially the same pattern. I bought a copy of the one with pumpkins and just subbed in a gift block for the pumpkin.

Lastly I took a little time to start piecing together rows from the partial seam herringbone I started at the retreat. I used a half-jellyroll from the free table and it looks like it will make a cute sized throw that someone I know will wind up getting as a gift next year. Who will that unfortunate person be? Only time will tell.

It's cute, fun and bright. And I will probably throw a border on it to bring it up to a good size.

What are you sewing today?

Sew Much Going On

First of all last weekend was my guild's retreat and it was awesome.

Of course Eugenie came with me and helped me with my projects. She's the best!

It was sew amazing to catch up with my friends. I have not seen most of these folks in person for over two years and I think none of us missed a beat. I love when you haven't seen someone in ages and you catch up like no time has passed. Of course it would be better to just see everyone on the regular but who does that anymore?

Anyway it was great.

These are the two quilt tops I completed during the weekend; both of them are made with precuts and have been "maybe someday" projects for me for a while. Sometimes the easy projects take the longest to get to because you just think, "oh that will only take a minute, so I'll procrastinate!"

The peachy pink quilt on top was made with a charm pack I got in a subscription box from Fat Quarter Shop and some scrap yardage. The pattern can be found at this link.

The purple and orange quilt was made with a Halloween layer cake called Spooky Hollow and a pattern from Moda, which you can find here. This is my favorite go-to pattern to show off a cute layer cake. I've used it at least twice already.

Both patterns work up fast. I completed the peachy quilt on Friday afternoon into the evening and easily completed the second quilt top by lunchtime on Sunday. The peachy quilt will be donated to a guild charity drive and the Halloween quilt is destined for a friend.

Kate Spain Layer Cake Link!

I finished this quilt a few weeks ago but it was finally gifted so I can share it now.

I made it with a layer cake by Kate Spain and some white yardage. The pattern is called Layer Cake Links and it's a free download from Fat Quarter Shop.

It didn't photograph all that well but it's very pretty in real life. It was fun to make and didn't take too long. It was a gift for a friend who brought my husband and me some meals when he was sick with what we think was COVID-19 in March. It was a terrible, scary time and it helped a lot to have someone helping me out!

The pattern used all but four of the 42 layer cake squares so there is very little waste. And a layer cake square is the perfect size for my favorite mask pattern; I made my friend a mask with two of the leftover squares.
