Little Bag for Baby Yoda

I made this little bag, about 8x5 or something, for Eugenie, based on the Tiny Bag Pattern from Sew Can She.  There are two exterior pockets and an easy pocket inside. You could add an interior zip pocket if you wanted and know how to do that. (The pattern doesn't include those directions.)

I have some issues with the pattern; in the official version there is only one outside pocket but I thought that would look dumb so I made two.

The pattern also calls for fusible fleece interfacing, which for me broke my needle when I tried to box the corners, so in the future when I make this little bag (and I will be making more) I'm going to use Pellon Shapeflex only. And I might use a different method to box the corners than the one given in the pattern.

I might also make the handles a little longer or place them a little differently on the body of the bag.

But overall this was a fun quick sew that came together nicely. I enjoyed going through my fat quarters for the fabric combo and I'm happy with how it came out. I would use a fat quarter for each element of the bag except the binding and straps just to make sure there is enough.

Another Outfit for Eugenie

If you know me IRL you know that I am obsessed with Hill House Home and their signature garment, the Nap Dress, which is basically a tiered midi dress with ruffled straps. I own waaaaaay too many of these dresses, as my husband will agree no doubt.

I buy most of them new but I have had occasion to shop Poshmark for the odd out-of-print dress and once when I was on Posh I found that someone was selling a tier from her dress that she had removed to make it the right length for her (presumably she was shorter than 5'3" or so, which is the point at which these dresses would start to drag on the ground). I don't actually own a Nap Dress in this print, but I bought the tier because it was very cheap and because I thought I could make a dress for Eugenie out of it.

(The print is no longer available new and the used dresses are kind of out of my budget. People tend to price them like collectables rather than like used clothing.)

The tier was about the right size for a tunic sized top made out of the Rose pattern which I've used before for dresses for my girl.  You can't see this in the photo but I used scallop shell buttons made out of coconut to close it at the shoulders.

I think she looks cute and all ready for summer!

BY Gets a New Dress

I finished another Shirt No. 1 (I'll show you later) and so of course I had to make my Baby Yoda a matching dress.

This is the same pattern I used for her Kaffe Fassett dress, Frou-Frou's chemise scaled down. Turns out French seams are a great choice for double gauze! I had just about enough left over from 2 yards for BY's dress and even some scraps for face masks.

Anyway thought you might like to see Eugenie relaxing in her new summer dress. Have a great day!

Momma-lorian and Me

I made a shirt!
For many of you this is not a big deal but this is my first finished handmade garment. And to be fair it's not 100% finished because I'm replacing twill ties with fabric ties just as soon as I have time. And I made Baby Yoda a matching outfit.

The pattern is by Frou-Frou and it's their "camisole" shirt. I made it with 2 yards of Kaffe Fassett quilting cotton I had in my stash. After doing a muslin I found the original length to be much too long so I shortened it in the second round. It's boxy and loose, and looks nice with slim-fitting pants.

Baby's dress is a scaled down version of the pattern, made exactly the same way. She does not have shoulders so it doesn't fit her the same as it does me. But I used the same shape along with the same construction details- French seams and bias binding on the arm holes. I used the Rose pattern I have made before to get the basic size and shape of the dress. I don't plan to make fabric ties to her dress though, nor do I plan to make a matching bow for me.

Frou-Frou's pattern was easy to follow and quick to make, even for me, a complete beginner. I would definitely make it again with another large-scale pattern but I can't see having too many of these tops.

Here is a closeup on Eugenie. Isn't she cute?

A Dress For Baby Yoda

I am obsessed with Baby Yoda.

So I am now obsessed with making clothes for her. Yes my baby is a girl. Anyway I made this outfit with some scrap Lilly Pulitzer fabric from my stash, because my baby has to be fabulous.

The tutorial I used is called The Rose and you can find it by clicking on the link. The 11-inch Mattel Child doll I own can comfortably wear 0-3 months size baby clothes, for what it's worth.
